The deep waters of the Sea
the surface of our planet is covered by water up to 71%. Even thought the ocean surface is exploited for fisheries, transport and scientific research, the deepest part of the oceans of the world remains untouched by any human being. The deep sea has many mysteries countless legends and stories that keep asking for more humanity and the search for answers to many questions.
The sea is part of the ocean at a depth 200 meters which is in permanent darkness. The gulf, with an average depth of 3.8 kilometers, is the most common environment on Earth.
The seabed is vast plains covered by soft sediments composed of debris and fine particles that drift down from the surface. The water is cold because it's the polar regions and its weight exerts considerable pressure on life in the sea floor.
Although the deep sea floor has no plants, our studies show that it is very different animal species, often with many more than the shallow water. For example, a shallow water area can have only 10 to 20 species of crustaceans, isopods, while some deep-sea habitats are over 100 species.
deep-sea animals are similar throughout the world. However, most species are highly endemic and is limited to small parts of large, apparently continuing the ocean basins.
Since most of us have no much to do with the sea, is sometimes abused. Damage and changes in the environment can take decades or even centuries. Some things that can damage the environment deep-sea environment: human waste passing ships, mining and deep sea drilling, deep-sea disposal of carbon dioxide liquefied carbon extracted from power plants and global warming.
Research Deepseawaters
NOAA's Undersea Research Program is a comprehensive underwater research program that supports NOAA's mission, providing scientists with the support, tools and knowledge necessary to carry out underwater research of regional, national and global. Of special interest to NURP is research focused on NOAA's management responsibilities coral, fisheries, and other seafloor ecosystems. NURP is also involved in the promotion of marine biotechnology through its National Institute Underwater Science and Technology (NIUST) National Repository of marine natural products. This repository represents the first intensive survey / sampling of U.S. agencies reef coral that are projected in the house of biomedical and agrochemical potential, and are available to qualified researchers for more biotech studies.
