Curriculum Analysis of an artifact

Introduction

The artifact curriculum chosen for the analysis is a teacher's edition of a text. Through this device, it will be possible to discover some of the theoretical influences that govern the curriculum. It will also be possible to outline some policies, legislative and social aspects of the curriculum. Finally, an analysis of artifacts curriculum is carried out against my values and the recommendations given.

Summary artifact

This teacher's edition is a text written by William Pinar known as "What is curriculum theory" throughout the article, you may understand this point of view of the teacher about the book. The author discusses the method Pinar to meet curriculum theory claiming that the largest percentage of this book is an awakening to the teachers about the current state of curriculum and call on for carry out reforms in this area. (Carlson, 2005)

The article also talks about the issues discussed in the text. One is in relation to the crisis gender education in the curriculum and the need to restore masculinity implement the curriculum. This can be achieved through the use of military training competitive sports and other forms of physical fitness. The article is also keen to point out how the issue of race in education is addressed, what is done against some of the problems facing the current curriculum. Many black parents face many problems in the current education system, yet few of them heard. These problems are also similar to poor whites. Consequently, the teacher highlights the fact that the text was not very effective in discussing the problems between black minorities, because these problems are also frequent among poor whites.

The article also highlights some of the thinkers plan original study as Dewey. According to the book, there is a need for current education system free from the slavery of technology. According to the author of the text, most teachers rely on computer technology itself, become more machine-like creatures. In the comments of the teacher, you can see that this view is offset by the Pinar mention of the benefits that technology can contribute to the implementation of the curriculum.

The article also analyzes the role of the teacher in implementing the curriculum. Pinar highlight the fact that is supposed to pay as much political as an autobiographical role. Besides this article is deep in the placement of some of the major problems facing today's teachers regarding curriculum reform. This is because the theory the curriculum is not taken seriously in the teaching profession and other interests of other stakeholders such as school deans, principals and school boards have priority.

Theoretical influences

A theoretical influence is good to know curriculum author, Edward Said. The last author has discussed frequent questions about the need to restore intellectualism in the curriculum. This is the reason why in the article, the author refers to discussions between students and teachers and give room for skepticism. In Said's book, which is quick to point out that the curriculum should encourage America's unthinking colonial mentality. Educators need to view your current curriculum and outside, while at the same time, taking the time to understand why things happen the way that are inside. (Giroux and Shannon, 2000)

It is important to note that a large percentage of this article is the theoretical perspectives covered in the book. One of the most adversely mentioned known as psychoanalytic theory. In this theory, places much emphasis on the fact that you have a fantasy large role in one's actions and determine the. It should also be noted that these preconceived notions generally acting as scapegoats. This is the reason why the latter author refers to the issue of scapegoating sue the curriculum system. The author asserts that a large percentage of public school usually seek scapegoats for the poor performance of most public schools. The author argues that minority groups such as blacks end up being the target of these scapegoats psychotherapy, as they are often blamed for the faults with the system of public education. (Kohli, 2002)

In the book of reference both has been given to the question of psychoanalytic theory in the curriculum. They assert that a Lacanian psychoanalytic theory should be available in the curriculum. This means that the Lacanian influences have a major role in understanding the article. Note that the way the author approaches this theory is quite different from what is actually done by real person.

This is because the greater percentage of the book is easy to understand. In examining the writings of Lacan, one can find it difficult placing some of the writings in context, as they tend to be increasingly complicated.

In the article, the teacher mentions the word currere solidarity. This notion is derived from ancient Greece. The Greeks currere defined as a race car or the traces of that car. Consequently, when one thinks of the curriculum in this way, then is appropriate to assume that the curriculum is being treated as something that is a transition or something that changes over time. This idea has been important in the article and in the text under review because the author speaks of the need to change the mentality teacher about curriculum implementation.

The author speaks of the need to involve students a little more in the educational process. This means that the curriculum should not be considered as a product. When the curriculum is treated as such, then likely that one can get very minimal chances of understanding what is happening.

In this approach, a student usually begins by not understanding nothing and then progresses in development. Usually, this idea involves the implementation of the curriculum in several steps. For example, one is required to evaluate the student's need, thereafter, are required to formulate objectives, this is followed by a content selection process. When you have finished doing this, then, are required to organize content, select learning experiences, organize the second and then evaluate. The problem with this approach is that the student is left out of the process without But these are crucial in the curriculum. This is the opinion of the authors deter and is the reason I oppose the idea of adopting business models and established practices by education stakeholders. (Diggs, 2003)

A major force influencing the book was the treatment of the curriculum as a process. According to the author, was necessary as a result of the curriculum in practice, comparing the curriculum of a recipe. A recipe is often imagined by a certain individual. Since then, the recipe is written and then tried to leave. If the ingredients are mixed happen, then the prescription is then spread on other chefs around.

Similarly, the curriculum should contain some tentative ideas. These must then be judged on the practice and when the work then they should be respected. In addition, the curriculum is similar to a recipe that can vary to some extent, to allow some variation in taste. Stenhouse was trying to stay very explicit that the curriculum can be considered as a method for the implementation of an educational proposal.

A word of caution is necessary in the treatment of the curriculum in the areas last. This is the responsibility of the curriculum is based on the quality of the teacher. If the teacher is able carry out their functions, then it is likely to do well. However, if the teacher is not so, then students may fail. This is the reason why the critical article talks about the need for teachers to constantly improve in order for the latter method to work for them

Another influence article is important in regard to the issue of curriculum as a form of practice. In other words, the curriculum can be considered the method or the way that groups or individuals to create their own understanding of the issues or topic. This influence can be seen in the article where the author talks about the needs of minority groups such as blacks and Hispanics. (Carlson, 2002)

In the article, you need to look at the types of environments that these groups are of order to incorporate their experiences in curricular practice. In this area of the curriculum as a form of practice, it is necessary to examine the ways in which human values can be incorporated into the teachings. It is also vital that teachers work together to maximize their respective situations.

The curriculum as a matter of context as has also been very influential in the writings of the latter. There are certain hidden aspects usually called hidden agendas. In other words, social relations have played an important role to influence the writing of this article. When speaking of social relations are merely refer the nature of relationships between students and teachers, the way classes are organized and the monitoring process.

The hidden curriculum is often not a positive because most of the time, serving the special interest groups with influence. Serves to keep things as they are instead of fighting for change in the process. It should also be note that these are issues that were mentioned by the authors with severity. In the teacher edition of this text, you may find that most schools are struggling with the fight against the current situation with many of them that allows little room for reform. This means that most of them have to deal with their problems as they are. The incorporation of social aspects of learning is important in implementing the curriculum for the following issues and their influence on the learning process.

  • Power struggles
  • Family dynamics
  • Social structure
  • Economy
  • Etc.

Social, political and legislative influences

The article is influenced by the political system of the day because there is no reference general to the fact that the bureaucratic systems affect public schools. This is because teachers are required to implement the curriculum through business models. These business models are largely derived from the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education. The main problem with this type of bureaucracy there may be some reformers and most of them tend to be deterred from making changes to the curriculum because of the latter phenomenon. (Giroux and Shannon, 2000)

The state has played an important role in establishing the steps that must be implemented by teachers in the curriculum. However, the author speaks of the need of teachers to exercise the freedom they're allowed to be intellectually independent.

One of the most important social influences that underlie the artifact is the adoption of existing subjective and individualistic tendencies of curriculum. According to the author, was necessary for teachers to be allowed to think for themselves. This is an aspect that is very present in society today. Many Americans are moving toward self-intellectualism that is usually acquired. Consequently, teachers can do the same.

Another social factor that has influenced the writing is feminism. According to the writer, many teachers happen to fall in the profession for women unless But rarely have the opportunity to air their grievances. Consequently, most of them end up being frustrated. This concept of gender disusing often in a variety of literature.

Closely related to the latter, is the fact that the latter speaks of the feminization of most men. This means that a large percentage of American men rarely participate in competitive sports or military activities. These are all ideas that have been taken from other writers influential gender. (Giroux and Shannon, 2000)

In the sixties, the curriculum underwent a radical reform following the government inteference turn. At that time, the U.S. faces the possibility of war especially since the cold war was happening. At that time, the U.S. political class felt the need to restart some elements of masculinity in American youth. Most of them felt that American youth becomes soft and that education could eliminate these features through a rigorous training, the institution of military techniques, among other things. This is why the ideology of gender, because a significant part of the ten new curriculum., These issues are also addressed by the article author, but results from influencing how changes sixties.

Therefore, it should be noted that the crisis of masculinity is addressed in the book is not a problem unique to this decade. In fact, it is a mere reflection of the past of the country's political influence in the sixties, the U.S. faces the threat of military superiority of the members of the Soviet Union. Accordingly, the curriculum was the way to deal with this. Similarly, the curriculum is important today to address the threats of the current system

In the article continuously referred to the aspect of race and education, especially with reference to problems in the south and north. The author teacher of the North and South are faced with entirely different problems. This notion is derived from the social system of the country due to the fact that North Korea tends to blame south for problems in other areas of public life as a health problem, etc. (Pinar, 2001)

Adequacy of curriculum with the values

While the author was successful in establishing some of the main points discussed in the book of Pinar. Would have been helpful if the author discusses all aspects different curriculum that took place in the text on the basis of the four main concepts. For example, it would be plausible if the latter author had more details on the curriculum as a product, as a process, as practice and in context. These are all issues that have been outlined in the last portions test.

However, the position taken by this author on the practice curriculum is very enriching. This is because there is a strong emphasis on the plan transient studies. The treatment of the curriculum as a product that does not include students in the process can lead to many problems in the implementation process. Consequently, have to look how we can say these social relations. This is the reason why the author has succeeded in discussing the curriculum.

Conclusion

This teacher's edition of a text is very thorough in the treatment of some of the problems faced today by a number author. The article reaffirms my opinion as an educator, and that it address all the issues that are essential in the learning process.
