Well … Let me start by asking, "What the hell is going on ??!!" Although this is a common colloquial expression, which we living in a time when all types of people through annual earnings, occupations, races and party lines are collectively (and private) to ponder this question in our daily lives. We are thinking about when we go to the grocery store at the gas pump, reading newspapers, listening to radio, and check e-news or receive alerts of Internet sites.

The cause of the colloquial expression, was the reality is in large part to the U.S. economy is beaten by four implacable realities, a declining job market, a shaky housing market, fuel and food costs, loans and credit compression. Throughout this country, life as we have known over the last decade is changing before our eyes. We feel it personally, and those of us who are Company managers daunting task of securing donor support for our nonprofit organization feel professionally. Investors and executives senior management is playing the "We can not (fill in the blank) because of the economy" card left and right ahead pending Pay raises need for new hires, improved or continued contributions, and other extreme operating expenses. The staff is working with the shells egg, wondering if they will have their work next week, waiting for successfully carrying out the responsibilities of at least two full-time workers.

The changes are happening at all levels, but gives more control to those who are supposed to bring in the money, no, not the Board of Directors of the fundraisers. These collectors funds sometimes wear the hat of President, CEO, Executive Director, Development Director, Development Manager, or fundraising consultants. A often unreasonably accountability starts from the bottom up, fundraising for many administrators are doing everything possible to stay stoic despite the increase in the percentage of letters of decline and lower levels of support … hoping for the best.

Do Non-Profits Receive Bailouts?

Why does it seem that the bar has been raised for the elderly not to benefit managers, but pardoned in the profit sector, public? Some of the brightest minds in the United States, with deep resources are (apparently) having a difficult time sustaining their operations without the huge debt. How not, for nonprofit organizations that are undercapitalized, lack of staff, poorly paid and overworked expected to perform comparatively better that these senior executives with bloated salaries, annual bonuses, stock options, and exotic corporate retreats? Should not the government bailouts will be limited entities in the business of community service, unlike capital gains? And at least when taxpayers have to bear the collective burden of rescue in the event to not be a burden on the salary in line with the middle class? Taxpayers do not want poor and middle class have to fund the retirement plans of the wealthy elite, yes, have strayed.

But seriously, how on earth is assumed that senior managers fundraising optimistic about the development of fundraising or plans to implement fundraising strategies planned, when the sources of their aid budgets have contributed dwindling and unrealistic performance standards?

Back to basics

The answer, though not necessarily easy to implement, is relatively simple. The fundraising executives will have to return to basics. There must be a genuine restructuring:

* Donors (historical and current)
* Elected officials
* Corporations local
* Members of the Board of the Community
* Ministers, educators
* Stakeholder identification only All other intrinsically the value of the difference in your organization makes in the community.

It is they who will carry the organization during these lean years. These stakeholders are not driven by the priorities of funding or political agendas, but for the good of the community. They want an executive to remain faithful to its mission, high benchmarks for shipment, create mechanisms for real-time information from the community, and timely measure the success of specific objectives.

In the field of arts and culture, stakeholders want exciting cultural events to attend on weekends and evenings. That the desire of young people from arts classes to offset the decline in arts programs in public schools. They want that artists have a creative space to develop their work and the community to benefit from spillover economic impact received by local businesses. People want to believe and see that they are making a difference.

The fundraising must reconnect to the hearts of these fans. They have to diversify their fundraising initiatives and passionately articulate the uniqueness and the continuing need for its programs in the community. The focus of each of these components must be driven by a strategy based on values, and then reinforced with supporting statistical data to show the impact of the organization. When fundraising back to basics, donors increasingly inspired than required to support the organization. Inspired by donors often give more than they may have originally budgeted for, because they feel the need to sacrifice for the good of the community. These are the investors Angels of the not-for-profit sector. These are the fruits ripe for fundraising to capture in these questionable financial times. Find them. Engage. Back to align with its core values. Show how your organization contributes to the greater good of the community. And let them feel they are also making a difference by providing the program with their support.
