Question about Magic the Gathering?

Only recently got into the card game. Obviously, there are things I am confused about. I have a fit confluence of the bridge "now, I'm kind of confusion. version is so different from those covered home, things like that, how I can know what to get? The cards can be of all different sets on the same floor? It allows say a monster says "first strike" on it, does that mean why not summoning sickness? Also, if a monster is reborn with "rush" does not mean that it can also attack the first turn. And I've seen some strange mana symbols (in the top right of the card) looks like a mixture of red earth and green, but is a symbol. What does that mean? I have seen a where you have three of the symbols. I know this much, but I give thanks to those who can help me! Thanks to all who answer. I found a card that says "indestructible" Does this mean that you can not kill?

First off let me say Congratulations to enter the most popular, interesting, and the greatest card game ever. Now the question. First, when you're doing for the first time in game starter decks are very good. I would suggest getting some of the color-coated monkey Tenth Edition so you can get an idea of what all the colors are good.
