Head on Collision Between Two Cultures When Rare Secret Art was released recently

Receive an invitation to the opening of art exhibitions in the Annandale prestigious Art Gallery, a converted Masonic hall, is a common occurrence for Bethany.

The stately building in Trafalgar Street, was Opened in the 1860s as a Methodist church. In the 1920s, became a Masonic Lodge. Now, a gallery of luxury in a trendy suburb downtown Sydney, Australia.

The owners of the gallery has earned its enviable reputation in the art world through exhibitions of specialists of the best in modern art in Australia and overseas.

The invitation, on July 22, seemed to be exceptional from the beginning. There is talk of rare art secret. Sacred art never before seen outside the tiny remote tropical island, South Pacific archipelago of Vanuatu.

Dressed completely custom logos, a group of nine Ni-Vanuatu artists performed a ceremonial dance of the sacred island of Ambrym, in the opening.

Bethany eagerly arranged with two friends to attend the openness, which sounded rather mysterious and fun. After the meal they could enjoy one of the restaurants of Darling Harbor. The problem of working their way through Sydney traffic and finding parking for the Mercedes-Benz was averted with the firm decision to take a taxi, or being left by one spouse

"I come a little later than planned due to traffic in Sydney, we were greeted by the beautiful sounds of a string band playing island music as they approached the entrance to the gallery, "Bethany said." It looked like the South Seas had arrived in the city. They did think of green palm trees and blue oceans tropics. Are invited to consider taking this South Pacific cruise my husband and I have been promising ourselves, "he thought.

As they joined the other guests drank French champagne, Bethany and their two friends buzzing with excitement, they admired the rare artifacts. These beautifully carved figures and masks wood, over four meters drum (tam-tam vertical). One of the largest standing instruments in the world with a musical in the world.

"We understood the art of being very old and rare, however, could easily be confused with pieces of modern art, "said David Baker of the gallery curator. "There is only one piece of work like this in a British museum."

A figure appeared barely dressed. Intensifying the pace began to gong constant methodical, on the edge of the face of the wooden bell. The face carved stylized to represent an ancestor. The expansion slot to the front of the battery ancestor gives voice once again.

Next came four dancers, dressed in what looked like a head to foot tent made of dried leaves with brightly colored masks, topped with chicken feathers, covering their faces. In a slow rhythm, however, dreamy shuffle, began making their way toward the center of the room. Their voices filled the gallery into a monotonous chant.

Another five men, wearing the insignia of his secret society, moved in the center of the four principal dancers. Treading the feet and palms of his hands, raised their voices in song.

Unaware of the feeling that they were causing, five mature Ambrym men were dressed in only a shell belt width hanging low over his hips. A Namba penis sheath that barely cover the essential of masculinity, they focused on their sacred dance. A bright red flower hibiscus adorned with one ear.

Unaware of the feeling that they were causing, the brilliant and well-formed buttocks dancers bounced up and down when the drum beat, the matrons of Sydney was in total shock.

"When the dancers first came into the room it was quite difficult to know where to draw the eyes. I have not seen that much bare buttocks from my four children were small, "laughed Bethany.
One thing is to imagine these men dancing in the soft light of a tropical forest of the island bare feet hitting the ceremonial pace on a dirt floor, but to think of them as he has just returned from a modern hotel room, braving the traffic of Sydney and the winter in Australia, was a mind bending thought.

"We were told that these men are taboo and women are not allowed to touch them, even today," laughed Bethany. "In fact, if any woman was performing the dance that had to be euthanized. One good thing does not apply now."

Life moves at a different pace in the tropical islands of Vanuatu, voted the Happiest Country on Earth 2006. A beautiful nation of more than 153 different languages and cultures with little communication devices modern remote distances covered.

Education is an oral tradition, and many villagers still live as their ancestors have done for generations. Tradition and culture is passed from father to son through dances, songs, drawings and sculptures from sand. Many of the new generation has lost the ability to understand the mystic language Carved of Gong.

The heads are beginning to recognize the educational needs of its people. They decided to share the secrets of their society and the release of some of his rare sacred art, to ensure its survival, the establishment of the art world on its ear. It aims to inspire young people and make them more aware of their ancient culture.

Few people are aware that Australia's smaller neighbor still has wonderful secrets hidden in the "Must See" Adventure Travel South Pacific destination.

Education needs beyond the main islands goes to the bottom of the list of priorities for government who in 2007 admitted that lack the resources to meet the educational needs of the nation.
