Unfortunately for all of us, there are people out there who wants to hurt other people's property and / or intend to participate in the event of theft another person. The fact that the site is reputable does not always mean the program or files that you are safe. Make sure you have a trusted site loaded into the browser before you start downloading everything on the site. Dealing with Spyware – is a plague us all. Not only is a waste of system performance, which may contain key loggers and data miners can see what you're writing and when. Scary huh? The first thing to avoid with spyware is to prevent in the first place. However, not always possible, and happens to the best of us. I would recommend that all computers have some kind of anti-spyware program. I personally recommend Spybot – Search and Destroy, due to its ability to "immunize" against spyware, rapid scan times and efficient disposal. However, any anti-spyware program work as long as it works well and can clean your system. Another way further protect your computer from spyware is using a different web browser. Many spyware files are only aware of Internet Explorer, so it can be helpful in preventing spyware. Firefox, for example, is an excellent Internet browser and can even be installed on your computer with Internet Explorer. It is also free, which is a plus. Its ease of use and modular expansion, make it highly recommended.
Keep Away Viruses – Viruses are potentially devastating for any system. The virus may sound jokes to the grave that can erase the entire hard drive or pick up important documents from you. Every computer connected to Internet must have an ANTI-VIRUS! Honestly, I can not emphasize this enough. Unfortunately, there are many anti-virus software are very good. However, Avast! Anti-Virus has shown some potential and can help keep your system constantly monitored. If you only need a free antivirus, Trend Micro offers a free online virus scan that can remove most viruses from your system. It is also recommended even if you have an antivirus, because it is nice to see if another program can choose anything but another lost. However, if you need more protection than a free anti-virus, then you should probably upgrade. For an anti-virus software that costs money, Symantec has a great product that is a reasonable price and keep your computer running with joy.
Firewalls – A firewall can save your ass more then you using a computer. A good firewall is a great defense against those who want to hurt / infiltrate your computer. In my opinion the free ZoneAlarm firewall is one of the better free solutions out there. Although sometimes people just do not want to download anything or install. So Windows XP has a firewall built into it. If you refuse to get a firewall, enable the XP firewall, it is better than nothing. By contrast, a firewall that you pay is more than likely better than anything you can get for free. Trusted brands, such as ZoneAlarm, Norton, Trend Micro and other great names of all products and a good firewall that is not very expensive.
Update – Always keep your security software and Windows updates. Many Windows Updates involve beneficial security updates that make it harder for others (including software) to compromise their security system. Also update all firewalls, anti-spyware and anti-virus. In this way, the team will the last defense against things (and people) do not want in your system.
