What greeting card manufacturers to do to use the old images?
At present, a way of greeting card old images of the 60's and 70's (mostly old photography magazines I believe), then add a title funny or fun. Is it royalty free images or do not have to buy the rights? What if the company that originally the image no longer is?
You need have the rights to reproduce or sell any image less than 100 years old. Do some research and find out who owns the rights. I can not be sued because you trying to sell a $ 3.95 greeting card.

Even with the millions of electronic greeting cards sent each year, delivering personal, printed cards for birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, or "just because" never go out of style. Research shows that most people around the world prefer the old greeting cards – giving and receiving.
With an estimated 3000 greeting card publishers in the United States alone, it is no surprise that it takes a lot of good copy of the greeting card. And if you always wanted to write for the greeting card market, which is great news! It means you have many options in which to present their work.
Do I have what it takes?
Are you creative? Do you have a knack for coming up with punch lines unique phrases? As you navigate through store cards, you find yourself thinking, "I could have written that."? They grow frustrated because you can never find the exact words you want in a greeting card?
If you answered yes to these questions, you may just have what it takes to become a greeting card writer.
What are publishers looking for?
There are generally two types of greeting cards: daily and seasonal. Copy of season should be submitted several months before the holidays with name and, of course, every day is a material accepted at any time.
Specifically what publishers are looking for varies depending on the type of greetings published. Some accept humorous verse (oatmeal Studies) some sentimental only (Blue Mountain Arts), and some both (Gallant Greetings). Although rhymed verse probably still see on racks in the store, most companies today are inclined towards poetry without rhyme.
But one thing all publishers look for is the "me to you of the factors." Word in a way that does not sound corny or fake, but you can really tell your mother, daughter, husband, friend, so come up with something fresh that has not been done a thousand times before.

What format is required?
Normally, greeting card copy is presented in two different ways. For short jokes, humor and one liners, many companies prefer writing each on a separate card 3 x 5. For longer and feelings in prose, the presentation of each piece on a sheet of paper is a standard procedure. You want each presentation number for easy reference and to include your name, address, telephone number and the target audience (for example, as "mother," "friend", etc.).
A note: many greeting card companies accept email submissions. Specific writer again, follow the guidelines on the format and whether to send in the body of the email or as an attached file.
How much will I pay?
Freelance greeting card are paid anywhere from $ 10 – $ 500 per card. That's a great variety, I know. But if you can put out new and creative copy speed of light, even the lower end of that range will save some decent money. If you are lucky to get into a bigger company, well, you do the math.
A royalty few companies offer, although this is not the norm. Most pay for "all rights", which means that it will not be the part and can not send or sell to elsewhere. Think carefully about whether you want to give up all rights to their work before signing on the dotted line.
Where do I submit my job?
As mentioned above, there are hundreds and hundreds of potential publishers willing to consider your work. Just note, mega companies – such as Hallmark and American Greetings editors have their own house and is almost impossible to break in but many other reputable companies welcome submissions from freelancers and work willingly with new writers. Companies like Blue Mountain Arts (or, SPS Studios), Oatmeal Studios, Comstock, and the Renaissance, to name a few.
